I don’t know about you, but I was absolutely captivated the first time I saw the “draw-me-like-one-of-your-French-girls” scene in “Titanic.”
As a kid, I had not seen much nudity up until that point, and this was a fine specimen. I may or may not have dug out the double-VHS set of this movie several times for the express purpose of re-watching that scene.
But jokes aside, there’s just something about a nude, reclined body being captured on the page that is utterly beautiful. In college, I took a figure drawing class, complete with live nude models, and loved it just as much.
Over in the Finocchio group chat recently, we got to talking about figure drawing. Turns out, we’ve all got the bug to draw some beautiful, naked bodies. So, I’m hosting a virtual figuring drawing event this weekend!
This will be queer-affirming space where we spend time drawing together on Zoom, with a nude model who will offer several poses for us to draw.
No need to be an expert artist, you just need a pencil and paper! We’ll have two shorter poses in the beginning, then one longer pose to finish the session.
The event will take place Saturday, March 28th at 1 p.m. Eastern Time / 6 p.m. Central European Time. The ground rules:
Due to the sensitive nature of nude modeling, all attendees are required to be active participants; if you show up, you’ll be expected to paint or draw the figure, not just watch. Similarly, there are no photos or recordings permitted.
All attendees for the session must be at least 18 years of age.
